I am Professor of Taxation and the Research Director for the School of Business and Ecomnomics at the University of Canterbury. I have been at UC for over 20 years, involved in all aspects of taxation teaching and research.
My research interests predominantly fall within tax compliance, administration and policy, as well as international taxation. projects I have been involved with recently relevant to SMEs include measuring tax compliance costs, methods to encourage R&D investment, and tax simplification initiatives. Within all of these is a major focus on policy implications.
I have worked on research projects with Inland Revenue, Treasury and the RSNZ, and colloborate with colleagues at other academic institutions in NZ and Australia, as well as in Hong Kong, the UK and the US.
