I have an interest in SME's from a governance perspective. Anecdotal evidence suggests that understanding what governance means for a business is lacking, meaning that the foundations of the business may not be strong. To date I have published in this field from a practical perspective, and that is where the relationships between academia and real life sometimes fall down. When it comes to the issue of law I also take a practical perspective because research tells us that SME's use their accountants as the first port of call, and lawyers are for when everything falls apart. I would really like more information available on the Companies Office website about governance.
